5 Good Reasons to Ignore Cheap Phone Systems

There are now more virtual phone service providers than there have ever been before, which presents an interesting problem overall, as well as a huge advantage for a business owner.

The problem is that it takes business owners much more time and research to find the right phone service for their business because there are now dozens of providers to choose from, rather than just a few big traditional phone carriers.

This explosion of virtual providers, unfortunately, comes with quite a few really cheap providers with terrible service who just want to grab a piece of the profit. The low cost for their services is tempting, but this is why you want to steer as clear as possible.

1. Unreliable Connection

This is one of the most common complaints people have when using a phone service app or cheap virtual provider. One of the ways these providers keep their costs low is by spending as little as possible on their carrier coverage, and that results in frequent dropped calls, poor connection quality, and spotty service.

The number of clients you may lose due to those issues far outweighs the money you’re saving by using a cheap provider.

2. Features that Don’t Work

A small business needs their phone system to have certain functions to serve their clients properly, and those functions have to work all the time. We won’t name any names here, but many cheap phone system apps offer a ton of features like call forwarding, extensions, call queues, etc., that barely work when you need to use them.

It’s a huge red flag when one of these phone app services doesn’t let you try it out first because that probably means the features don’t work as advertised.

3. No Support

There are times with any virtual phone system when you are going to need a little technical help or just need a question answered, which is why it is essential that your provider has a great customer support department.

Cheap providers are usually not going to offer any support whatsoever because keeping real people on staff is expensive.

4. No Room for Growth

If you have a small business, it’s really important that your phone service provider is able to grow with you.

For example, if you grow from 2 people running a business out of a garage to a company with 10 employees and an office, then 30 employees, and so on, one of these cheap providers probably isn’t going to be able to support you as you expand.

5. You’re Throwing Money Away

These cheap providers are like dollar-store toys that you buy for your kids. You get them because they’re right there and keep the kid occupied for the moment, but they eventually just get trashed or thrown into a closet somewhere. It’s just not a good investment for your business.

You’re going to trash it at some point to sign up with a quality virtual phone system with professional service and features, so you’re much better off skipping the cheap provider and going with the quality virtual provider in the first place.
