A virtual phone number, also known as DID or access number, is a telephone number that is not directly associated to a telephone line. These numbers are often programmed to forward incoming calls to one of the pre-set telephone numbers chosen by the client; either Landline, Mobile or VoIP.

Toll free phone numbers begin with the area code: 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844 or 833. Traditionally the owner of the toll free number is charged for the call and the caller is not billed. However, Talkroute does not charge any additional fees for toll free number usage to our customers or the originating caller.

A vanity phone number is a toll free number for which you may specify a sequence of numbers that spells out a word or phrase. These numbers are commonly used for marketing and branding purposes (such as 1-800-FLOWERS and 1-800-CONTACTS). You may search and add a toll free vanity phone number to your account at any time.

It is also possible to request local vanity phone numbers that utilize local area codes by submitting a ticket.

There is actually no difference. 800 phone numbers are simply the most popular toll free numbers but they are also the most difficult to find. Most providers don’t offer 800 numbers and if they do, they usually charge a premium for them.

Local phone numbers represent a specific region, city or state which is identified by their 3 digit area code. Local phone numbers are a great way to establish a local presence within a community whether you have a physical presence there or not.

With Talkroute, you may register as many local phone numbers as required, in as many different localities as needed. It doesn’t matter if you are in a big city like Chicago (312) or a small town such as Key West (786), we have local numbers available for everyone.

Yes. Talkroute does not charge any fees for porting your number to a different service (applies only to paid accounts in good standing).
