Business Blogs 101: Why Every Business Needs One

There’s no judgment here, whatsoever, but you’re in the minority if you don’t have a blog attached to your business’ website.

You may have noticed other businesses with blogs and wondered why they are bothering with it. Here’s the basic function and purpose of a blog for your business.

The Mainstay of Content Marketing

Content marketing encompasses quite a few different elements which can work together to promote your business online. The mainstay, however, is a blog. If you don’t have a decent website, first of all, then you’re already shooting yourself in the foot.

Creating a website is Step #1. Then, your second order of business should be adding a blog, or even multiple blogs. But, start with one.

Why Does Every Business Have a Blog Now?

Probably the two best ways to market your business today, no matter what size it is, are blogs and social media, which both fall under the umbrella of “content marketing”.

Being that social media marketing can be kind of volatile and difficult to pin down, a business blog is still the most reliable way to promote your biz. Businesses have been using this strategy for quite a while now, but you can still employ it as an extremely successful strategy.

How It Works

Firstly, it makes absolutely no difference whether you run a tech company or a flower shop. Every business can benefit from having a blog. In a nutshell, it works because everyone looks for products and services online now.

That means that your customers will find you by typing words into the little white box on their search engine page, mainly Google. So, the whole marketing strategy works through SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, which in the plainest terms means this: When someone searches the words, “flowers deliver”, an article from your blog with the same words in the title comes up on Page 1 of their search.

Depending on how many businesses are selling the same thing that you are, that may be pretty difficult to achieve. Not to worry. See the resource section at the end of this post for a couple of articles that will show you exactly what you need to do. And more to come.

Start a Blog, and Watch Your Business Grow

If you’re not too familiar with this method of marketing, then you may not fully believe that it could possibly have much of an impact.

Understand that adding a blog, if you post regularly and write great, targeted headlines, will undoubtedly draw more traffic to your business’ website—and that will convert to more paying customers.
