How to Port a Phone Number from Vonage to Talkroute

Porting your Vonage phone number to Talkroute is just like porting any other number, except for the fact that they do not list your phone number on the phone bill, which is necessary to prove that you have authority to port the number.

This article will explain how to work around that, as well as step-by-step instructions for getting your Vonage number successfully ported to Talkroute.

1. Gather pertinent information for the number you’re porting.

Before you even get started, it’s a good idea to put together all the information you have that is associated with your phone number. Start with your most recent phone bill, which you will need to submit to your Talkroute porting agent when you put in the port request.

Then, call Vonage and ask them if you can have a Customer Service Report (CSR), or a similar document with another name, which contains all the information they have on file for the number.

While you have them on the phone, let them know that you are porting away your number and ask if there are any special requirements for them to release your number to Talkroute.

2. Take a screenshot of your Vonage account page.

Documentation is required to prove that you have authority to port out your number, which is normally done by providing the new carrier with a phone bill that contains the number you’re porting. Since Vonage phone bills do not usually list your number (some Vonage bills do), a screen capture of your online account can be used as documentation.

3. Send the screenshot.

Once you have a good screenshot that shows all the necessary information, send it to the agent who is handling your port. Please note that this screenshot MUST show the number you wish to port.

4. Complete & Sign LOA.

Required for any phone number port, the LOA (Letter of Authorization) is essential because it explicitly proves that the primary account holder, by signing, has authorized the transfer to a new carrier. Be sure to sign this document and fill it out completely.

The information on this document, including the company name, account holder, and service address for the number you’re porting must match, exactly, what the current provider has on file for the number.

Talkroute uses software provided by Right Signature to facilitate the submitting of your LOA, allowing you to complete the form online with an electronic signature. This document will be sent to your email at the time that you initiate your port request.

5. If your port is rejected, call Vonage and ask them why.

The Talkroute porting agent will tell you what is the official reason why the current carrier rejected the port, but that doesn’t always make it clear what was wrong. The best way to find out why your port was rejected is to simply call Vonage and inquire.

This is also a good time to consult the CSR, as mentioned earlier, and send it to your porting agent because it shows all the correct information they have on file for your number. So, if you don’t have one already (you probably don’t), talk to Vonage and get the CSR.

6. Watch your email for the completion date.

That’s it! Once the porting agent has all of your information, they will submit the request, and all you have to do is wait. On average, the process takes 7-10 days for “simple ports” (the majority of ports are simple ports), as long as you complete all of these steps promptly.

A few days before completion, you will be notified by email when your port is going to complete, and you can always ask for a status update at any time.
