Bulk Texting

Send thousands of messages. From the numbers you already own.

Bulk Texting adds high-volume messaging to your Talkroute account — whether your team is sending more 1:1 messages than your plan allows, or you want to send marketing campaigns to thousands of recipients via our Messaging API. Same Talkroute numbers, more capacity.

Who it’s for

Two reasons people add Bulk Texting.

You’re texting more customers, 1:1.

Your team uses texting heavily for support, scheduling, follow-ups, and customer questions — and you’re running into your plan’s monthly message limit. Bulk Texting raises your ceiling so your team can keep texting without hitting walls.

  • Send everyday 1:1 texts from the Talkroute apps as you always have
  • Add 2,500 to 50,000+ extra messages per month
  • No API integration needed — just more headroom
Ideal for: businesses with heavy customer texting — service companies, real estate, healthcare, sales teams.

You want to send campaigns at scale.

Send marketing promotions, appointment reminders, or notifications to hundreds or thousands of customers via our Messaging API. Personalize each message, receive real-time inbound webhooks, and reach your whole list programmatically.

  • Reach thousands of recipients via our Messaging API
  • Personalize with merge variables from your CRM or data source
  • Webhooks for incoming replies in real time
Ideal for: businesses with marketing lists — retail, restaurants, fitness studios, e-commerce, event organizers.

Either way, all included in the same Bulk Texting add-on. Pick a volume tier based on how many messages you need per month.

How it works

Everything you need to send at scale.

Messaging API

A clean REST API. Use it from anywhere.

The Talkroute Messaging API is a straightforward REST interface — standard HTTP, JSON everywhere, Bearer token authentication. Make requests from any language or platform. Send messages programmatically from your Talkroute numbers and receive real-time webhooks when customers reply.

  • Simple REST endpoints with JSON request/response
  • Bearer token authentication — standard, secure, familiar
  • Send SMS and MMS from your Talkroute numbers
  • Inbound webhooks for incoming texts, calls, and voicemails
  • Detailed docs with copy-paste examples for every endpoint

  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
"body": "Holiday sale! 20% off today."
  }'

Compliance

Carrier registration, handled for you.

SMS compliance can be confusing. We handle the carrier registration process for both toll-free (TFN) and local (10DLC) numbers when required. Most established Talkroute customers are already registered and can start sending immediately.

  • Toll-free verification handled by our team
  • 10DLC registration submitted on your behalf
  • Opt-out keyword management (STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE) built-in
  • Audit trail for consent and compliance reporting
TCPA 10DLC CTIA TFN verified

Personalization

Every message, personalized. At any scale.

The Messaging API accepts merge variables in your request payload, so you can send thousands of unique-feeling messages from a single template. Pull first names from your CRM, appointment times from your booking system, order details from your e-commerce platform — combine them into one personalized send.

  • Inject any variable from your data source — name, date, location, custom fields
  • Template management lives in your stack (CRM, code, or no-code tools)
  • Built-in compliance variables for opt-out language and brand identification
  • MMS supported — attach images by including them in your API payload

Deliverability

Direct carrier routes. Faster, cleaner delivery.

Talkroute connects directly to major carrier networks — no third-party SMS gateways in the middle adding latency, cost, or points of failure. Your messages take the shortest possible path to customers’ phones.

  • Carrier-direct routes — no SMS gateway middlemen
  • Reduced latency between send and delivery
  • Compliance handled at the carrier level with proper 10DLC / TFN registration
  • Carrier-level opt-out enforcement — STOP requests block future sends automatically

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between Bulk Texting and regular texting in Talkroute?

Bulk Texting is an add-on that raises your monthly message capacity — for two common cases. First, businesses whose teams are running into the message limits on their base plan because they text customers frequently. Second, businesses that want to send marketing campaigns to thousands of recipients at once via our Messaging API. Regular 1:1 texting in your Talkroute apps continues to work as always; Bulk Texting just gives you more capacity (and optional API access for campaigns).

Do I need to use the API if I just want more messages for 1:1 texting?

No. If your team is texting customers heavily and you’re running into your plan’s monthly message limit, adding Bulk Texting just gives you more capacity. You’ll keep texting from the Talkroute apps as you always have — no API integration, no technical setup. The API is only needed if you want to send campaigns to large recipient lists at once.

How do I send bulk campaigns?

All bulk campaign sending happens through the Talkroute Messaging API. You make HTTP requests to send messages to large recipient lists — just a clean REST interface, no SDKs required. Regular one-to-one texting continues to work in your Talkroute apps as always.

Do I need a developer for Bulk Texting?

For sending bulk campaigns at scale, yes — bulk sending is API-only and requires someone comfortable with REST APIs. Regular one-to-one texting doesn’t require any technical setup; it’s available in your Talkroute apps. Once you integrate the Messaging API for bulk, your team can trigger campaigns from your existing tools (CRM, marketing platform, automation tools, etc.).

What languages or frameworks are supported?

The Messaging API is a standard REST API, so you can call it from any language or platform that supports HTTP requests — Node.js, Python, PHP, Ruby, Go, Java, .NET, no-code tools like Zapier or Make, or directly from your CRM if it supports webhooks. Our documentation includes ready-to-use curl examples for every endpoint.

How long until I can start sending campaigns?

Most established Talkroute customers can launch their first campaign the same day. If your numbers need carrier registration (toll-free verification or 10DLC), we handle that for you — typically 1–3 business days.

Do I need a separate phone number for bulk texting?

No — bulk texting uses the same Talkroute phone numbers you already own. Both toll-free and local (10DLC) numbers can send bulk messages, with the right registration in place. Most established Talkroute customers are already registered.

What counts as one message?

One message = one 160-character SMS segment. A longer message (350 characters, for example) counts as 3 segments because it’s split for delivery. The API response shows segment count before you send.

What happens if someone replies STOP?

When a recipient texts STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, or another opt-out keyword, the carrier automatically blocks future messages to that number from your line — a legal requirement built into the SMS network itself. Because opt-out enforcement happens at the carrier level, your Talkroute number will not accept further outbound messages to that recipient. To sync opt-outs into your own systems (CRM, suppression lists, etc.), monitor for STOP-style replies via the inbound message webhook and update your data source accordingly.

What’s the difference between TFN and 10DLC?

TFN (toll-free numbers, like 800/888/833) need carrier verification before sending campaigns. 10DLC (10-digit long codes — your local business number) need carrier registration through a brand and campaign approval process. We handle both for you when needed.

Do I need a Business Phone plan?

Yes. Bulk Texting is an add-on to a Business Phone plan (Basic, Plus, Pro, or Enterprise) because it uses your existing Talkroute numbers. View plans →
