Do I need a Business Phone plan to add Bulk Texting?
Yes. Bulk Texting is an add-on that layers on top of an active Business Phone plan (Basic, Plus, Pro, or Enterprise). It sends from the phone numbers your Business Phone plan provides.
What’s the difference between included texting and Bulk Texting?
Your Business Phone plan includes a baseline number of SMS/MMS messages per month (500 on Basic, up to 5,000 on Pro) for everyday business texting. Bulk Texting is for high-volume campaigns — promotional sends, drip messages, automated outreach — and adds 2,500 to 50,000+ additional messages on top of your plan’s included quota.
Will I need to register before sending?
Carriers require business senders to be registered — separately for toll-free numbers (TFN registration) and local numbers (10DLC registration). Most established Talkroute customers are already registered from their day-to-day business texting, so they can start sending immediately. If you’re new or unregistered for either number type, we handle the registration paperwork as part of your Bulk Texting subscription — typically 1–3 business days.
Can I send from my existing Talkroute numbers?
Yes. Bulk Texting uses the toll-free and local numbers already on your Talkroute account. You don’t need to provision new numbers or migrate anything.
What if I send more than my plan’s included messages?
You can upgrade between volume tiers at anytime. If you regularly exceed 50,000 messages per month, contact our sales team about Enterprise pricing for higher volumes.
How are messages counted toward my quota?
Counts are based on segments, not by what you typed as a single message. A standard SMS segment is 160 characters — if your message runs longer, it splits into multiple segments, and each segment counts against your plan’s quota. A 350-character SMS, for example, counts as three messages. MMS follows similar segmentation rules based on size and content.
How long does it take to get started?
Most established Talkroute customers can start sending the same day — their numbers are already registered from day-to-day business texting. If you need toll-free or local registration, expect 1–3 business days while carriers review your campaigns — we prioritize Bulk Texting customers in the queue to keep it fast.
